Journal your way to a happier, healthier self

A look at some of the benefits of journaling and why you should start, if you haven’t done so already.

Journaling helps you structure and organise your thoughts. By jotting your thoughts down in black and white, you are forced to clarify and define what you are experiencing, which will help you get more in touch with yourself.

It provides an outlet to release pent-up emotions. Writing down feelings of anger, stress, or sadness can be very therapeutic and help to maintain a healthy state of mind.

It cultivates gratitude. By listing down little things you are thankful for every day, you’ll realise you have plenty of things to be thankful for!

It provides the opportunity for reflection. By looking back, you can better understand how certain experiences have shaped you, and how you can learn and grow from them.

It nurtures your creativity. As journaling is a private activity, it allows you to let loose your creative juices without fear of being judged or criticised.

It refines your editing skills. Part of the process of journaling is eliminating the clutter in your head  by jotting down the thoughts that are significant and important. This will help refine your editing skills in other parts of your life as well, helping you to sort through and cut out the junk that doesn’t matter.
